Some scholars viewed it as recommended, based on this hadith:
عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ غَسَّلَ وَاغْتَسَلَ وَغَدَا وَابْتَكَرَ وَدَنَا مِنْ الْإِمَامِ وَلَمْ يَلْغُ كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ عَمَلُ سَنَةٍ صِيَامُهَا وَقِيَامُهَا
The Prophet :saw: said, "Whoever causes [his spouse] to bathe and bathes himself on Friday......" (I've only translated the relevant part.)
(Sunan Nasa'i)
Causing one's spouse to bathe means having relations with her. However, there are different views concerning what is meant by the words "ghassala waghtasala", and the above translation is just one interpretation.
Need to believe there is a hadith that states that there are special blessings for having relations with your wife on Friday (Thursday night) because you will have to take your Friday ghusl for jumua
and before a man is to ever have sex with his wife there are dua, some even say make two raka (Haven"t read the two raka in a long time, so check that one)
Most view on sex on Thursday night (Friday)
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Beloved brothers and sisters in Islam, to the best of our knowledge we have not come across any authentic hadith declaring that sex with ones wife on a Thursday night is more meritorious or earns more rewards than at any other day or night of the week (or month, or year!).
Every time one enjoys conjugal relations with ones legally wedded wife, one will earn its due reward.
Abu Dhar al-Ghafari reported: The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: there is a reward for you [even] in sex with your wife." The companions asked: O Messenger of Allah (saws) is there a reward if one satisfies his passion?" He (saws) said: "Do you know that if he satisfies it unlawfully he has taken a sin upon himself? Likewise, if he satisfies it lawfully, he is rewarded."
