Treatment by medical professionals of the opposite sex

Question

Is it permissible for a man to go for medical treatment to a female doctor or for a woman to go to a male doctor?

Answer

Is is preferrable that men should be treated by male doctors and women by female doctors. Islam dislikes unnecessary mixing between men and women to protect them from temptation. 

However, in cases where only a doctor of the opposite sex is available, or where that doctor is more skilled than other available doctors, or in circumstances where it is very difficult to wait for another doctor, then it is permissible for a patient to be treated by a doctor of the opposite sex, provided that the patient does not stay alone in one place with the doctor and no temptation is feared
