Congregational Du'aa when breaking fast

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

As far as we know, it is not reported in the Sunnah that there is a congregational supplication when breaking the fast. However, if this is done sometimes without making it as a habit, then we hope that there is no harm in it. Shaykh Al-Islasm Ibn Taymiyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 'To read or make remembrance or supplicate in congregation is something good as long as this is not taken as a supererogatory Sunnah or linked to an innovation.'

Moreover, Imaam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: 'Is it dislikeable for a people to gather and supplicate Allah and raise their hands?'' He replied: ''What I dislike for the brothers is to do that as a habit.”

If any person takes this as a habit it becomes an innovation, because in such a case people would think that it is a confirmed Sunnah but in reality it is otherwise.

Allah knows best.
