Seeking treatment for magic from people of knowledge & piety

Question

Is it permissible to go to someone pious who does not indulge in magic but knows how to find out if someone has been effected by black magic? Is it permissible if such people use Jinn to help them reach a diagnosis but only prescribe verses of the Qur’ân as a treatment? What should be done if blood stains are constantly found in and around the house? Who should we go to for guidance in such things?

Answer

It is permissible to go to trustworthy and pious people for ruqyah. Some people have experience in these matters and have become familiar with people who are affected by black magic. They only use in their ruqyah the recitation of the Qur’ân and some supplications mentioned by the Prophet (peace be upon him). Sometimes they might order the affected person to read these verses and supplications for himself.

However, it is forbidden to go to people who use any magical means or who contact the Jinn to treat the patient or to reach a diagnosis. Lawful means are available and there is no need to seek treatment by unlawful means. Allah would not put the cure for Muslims in what is forbidden to them. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Seek treatment, but not by unlawful means”.

The blood stains might have simply come from someone living in the house. Alternatively, they could be an image constructed by the imagination prompted by the suggestions of Satan. This is a widely known phenomenon, particularly for people who are suffering from misgivings.

I advise you to contact one of the people of knowledge in your locality and seek his guidance regarding your case and how to treat it.
