The Da Vinci Code controversy – It’s everywhere! Dan Brown's book claims Jesus in not divine or God, and the gospels as we know them, have been changed, and after Jesus’ stay here on earth, men raised his status to the level of God. Could any of this be true?
Ancient secrets of the Church, hidden for centuries have actually been revealed and published in books prior to the fictional writings of Brown in the “Da Vinci Code”. Baigent and Leigh have produced other books from researcher’s point of view over the last two decades, including “Dead Sea Scrolls Deception”, “Holy Blood, Holy Grail”, and “Messianic Legacy.” These books were the talk of the religious communities when they came out in the early 90's, and certainly they have fueled an ongoing interest into just exactly who was this man Jesus, what was his message and what happened to him?
Islam claims to “break the code” so to speak, over 1,400 years ago. The answer, according to Muslim scholars has been in the Quran for over fourteen hundred years
Some may be surprised to learn, Muslims believe in the miracle birth and other miracles associated with Jesus. They actually consider him as the “Messiah” and they even say, “peace be upon him” when mentioning his name. However, they are quick to negate any connection between God and Jesus as a partnership or God-head, and they rule out the notion of God having any son (or daughter for that matter).
Here is how Muslim scholars present their understanding and “break the code”:
Creation itself tells us there is a creator and from the beginning of time – Allah, (the One God in Arabic) alone is to be worshiped. This is clear teaching throughout the Old Testament (Torah), the scriptures that Jesus himself affirmed as a revelation of God. God is one not one of three; for example: ‘He is God; there is no other besides Him’. (Deuteronomy 4:35). The same is mentioned in the book of Mark in the New Testament, chapter 12, verse 29, when Jesus, peace be upon him, had been asked about the Greatest Commandment he replied,
“To know, O Israel, the Lord your God is One Lord; and you have to love Him with all your heart and all your mind and all your strength.”
According to the oldest and most authentic copies of manuscripts and scrolls available throughout the centuries, Jesus, peace be upon him, never claimed to be God, or the creator, or the One to pray to, nor did he tell his followers to revere him as God. These notions appear on the lips of others who came along decades and even centuries later.
While Jesus was on earth he did not claim to be the creator or ask us to revere him as God. His miraculous birth is a sign of his prophethood:
“Verily, the likeness of Jesus before God, is the likeness of Adam. He (God) created him from dust and said “Be!” and he was.” (Quran 3:59)
Like all the great and noble prophets of God such as Adam, Abraham, Moses, Isaac and David, Jesus came with one message: Worship, love, obey and submit to the one true God, the creator of everything and do not worship anything besides Him.
Throughout history, people have taken to worship things or people alongside God, or just worshiping something else like power, status or money. Even the names of religions seem have more to do with the creation and less or nothing to do with the Creator. For example: Buddhism – Buddha (the name of a man), Confucianism – Confucius (the name of a man), Hinduism – Hind (the name of an area), Judaism – Judah (the name of a tribe) and Christianity – Christ (the name of a great prophet).
Islam is different. Islam is a word derived from the verb aslama, and it carries the meaning of “surrender”, “submission”, “obedience”, “sincerity” and “peace” between one and Almighty God and not to any human or anything within creation. Anyone who practices Islam submits to and worships Allah, alone without any partners of any kind.
The Quran states:
“There is only One God then have reverence for Me and fear Me (and Me alone). To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and on earth, and to Him is duty due always: then will ye fear other than God?” (Quran 16:51-52)
Isn’t it time you join Jesus, the son of Mary, along with all of the other Prophets of God and practice the “Submission to the Will of God” (Islam)?

In fact, the term ‘Heaven’ – capitalized – has a shared meaning in Islam and all the other revealed religions. Primarily, it refers to that beautiful abode where, those who believe in only God, humble themselves to worship Him, do the good and avoid the evil, are promised to go after the end of this worldly life.
In this sense, it is the synonym of the “Gardens of Paradise”, which is the equivalent of the Arabic word: Jannah. Those blessed dwellers will live there in an everlasting life.
This term, in Christian theology, may also mean a name of God the Almighty. Again, in the sufist (mystic) tradition of both religions, this term means an ecstatic state of communion with God.
Thus, it is obvious that all the connotations of this word are spiritual and highly exalted, above the human level of worldly experience.
It is a transcendental space that the believers, though never experienced, yet are able to conceive through the detailed description that God has supplied them with. This is in order to arouse their incitement and longing for it. It is difficult to quote the many verses in Quran that describe Heaven, as these are so many!
It might be sufficient to know that every pleasure in that Heaven is unparalleled to that in the worldly life. It is as the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him), described to enclose:
“What no eye has ever seen and no ear has never heard and no human heart has ever perceived.” (Narrated in the book of compiled hadiths by Imam Muslim)
Its food, houses, rivers, pleasures… everything is beyond imagination! And because the believer is always attached to the spiritual more than the sensual, even in Heaven, God has made the ultimate ecstasy for the believers there, is to look at His Holy Countenance. Such is a blessing, from which believers never get bored or even get accustomed to, despite familiarity.
Because this term – Heavens – refers to the place and condition of utmost happiness, it was borrowed or say, “hijacked”, by those whose philosophy of life is a mere hedonistic one. I think that their choice of this word in particular is evidence, in itself, of their awareness of the model image of happiness and bliss.
But the gap is quite wide, between the model image and this worldly application of pleasure, which is definitely associated with a pain or discomfort of some kind, or at least with the sense of temporality or boredom.
For this reason, those hedonists rely on a “carp diem” style of life. This is a Latin expression, which means: “live day by day”. This would mean that you must exhaust your pleasure every day for fear that there may not be a second opportunity tomorrow!
If you need to know more about the description of Heaven, from the Islamic point of view, I recommend that you buy a CD of the Quran, the Muslim Holy book, and just search for the words “Heavens” and “Gardens of Paradise”.
Here, you will know much about the rewards that await the believers there and more important, the requirement for a believer to attain them. Such requirements would look simple compared to the reward, and can – with the mercy of God – be reached if one can persevere in obeying Allah and practicing true Islam.

The man was a teacher. He taught the Law of Moses. He was impressed to see Jesus answering the questions of hypocrites and heretics with wisdom:
"One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, ‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’"
He felt it was his opportunity to ask Jesus, the Great Teacher, what was the most important commandment, how he can be saved, enter life and the Kingdom of God.
Now, we need to shed all our biases, everything we have been taught in Sunday schools, and all the teachings of mortal men. All who love Jesus should let him talk:
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’"
A great answer to a great question: accept the Lord our God is One, love Him, and worship Him to the best of your ability.
Jesus was not finished. He had more to teach. Obviously Jesus was teaching the man everything he needed to get into the Kingdom of God. Jesus added:
"…The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’"
The Great Teacher further clarified:
"There is no commandment greater than these."
The man who questioned Jesus repeated the commandments to make sure he got them right:
Mark 12:32 "‘Well said, teacher,’ the man replied. ‘You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him…’"
Jesus seeing the man had learned the greatest commandment correctly gave him the good news:
Mark 12:34 "When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’"
There are some significant lessons in this story:
First, Jesus taught the man more than he asked, yet he did not say he is the son of God, or the Savior sent to redeem mankind of its sins. He did not say anything remotely similar to what people are instructed to repeat to be ‘born again’ in Christ, "You should individually receive me, accept me as the Son of God, your personal Lord and Savior who will die on the cross for your sins and will rise from the dead. Let the Holy Spirit fill you…"
Take what Jesus said and leave what people have added.
Second, salvation depends on this commandment. Jesus made it clear when another man approached Jesus to learn from him (Mark 10:17-29). The man fell on his knees and said to Jesus:
Mark 10:17-18 "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus replied: "Why do you call me good? No one is good — except God alone."
Third, Jesus confirmed there is no commandment greater than these. In case, someone might think the greatest commandment changed afterwards, Jesus told us:
Matthew 5:17-19 "For assuredly, I say to you, till the heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no mean pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Fourth, anyone who loves Jesus and wants to enter life must keep the greatest commandment of Jesus as he said:
John 14:15 "If you love me, keep my commandments."
Matthew 19:17 "If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
Fifth, a sincere Christian should accept what Jesus said without twisting his words or finding hidden meaning in them. Jesus taught exactly what Moses taught some 2,000 years before him:
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."
Jesus, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, taught the same eternal truth ALL the prophets of God taught to their people: God is One, worship Him alone.
Deuteronomy 6:13 "Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only and take your oaths in His name."
Deuteronomy 5:7 "You shall have no other God besides Me."
Isaiah 43:11 "I even, I am your Lord and besides Me, there is no Savior."
Hosea 13:4 "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no savior except me."
Psalms 95:6-7 "O come, let us bow down and worship, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. For we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His voice and He is our God."
Jesus emphasized this teaching to Satan as well:
Matthew 4:10 "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only."
Sixth, the Quran confirms the greatest commandment of Jesus. The Quran teaches us exactly that God sent all the prophets with the same teaching: to worship the One true God alone.
"…And your God is One God: there is no god but He…" (Quran 2:163)
"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him..." (Quran 17:23)
"And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We revealed to him (saying): ‘none has the right to be worshipped but I, so worship Me.’" (Quran 21:25)
Seventh, on the Day of Resurrection, the Quran tells us that God will ask Jesus:
"And [beware the Day] when God will say, ‘O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as gods besides God?...’" (Quran 5:116)
Jesus will respond:
"He will say, ‘Limitless are You in Your glory! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Verily, it is You alone who fully knows all the things that are beyond the reach of a created being’s perception. I said not to them except what you commanded me – to worship God, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You alone had been their keeper:’ for You are witness unto everything. If You should punish them – indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them – indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." (Quran 5:116-118) - islamreligion.com

In part 1, a brief overview of Scientology, we learned that across the globe there are various government opinions about whether or not Scientology is a religion. We also explored the basic belief system of Scientology. Scientology is not a Christian sect but does profess to believe in a Supreme Being, Scientologists believe in reincarnation and consider humans to be spiritual beings, and higher states of enlightenment can be attained via a process called auditing. In part 2 we will delve a little deeper and discover the origins of Scientology.
Our motivation for revealing the secrets of Scientology is not to denigrate scientologists or to make a judgement on whether or not Scientology is a religion. Our motivation is only to compare other religions with Islam and to further the command to seek beneficial knowledge before making decisions. Some of the information contained below sounds like a fantasy story however every effort has been made to use only reliable sources. Please bear in mind that the sources used in Part 1 to outline the basic beliefs of Scientology were from official scientology web sites. Now in the second part of the series we will look at the opinions of a growing body of people leaving Scientology and speaking out against their former religion. We will also look at official government and law enforcement opinions and charges.
The story of L Ron Hubbard’s life and rise to power is both interesting and colourful and can be found on line at numerous web sites both for and against Scientology. As a university student Hubbard found moderate success as a writer of pulp fiction, publishing hundreds of stories in fantasy and science fiction magazines. After world war 2, where he served brieflyas a lieutenant in the Navy, Hubbard met John Whiteside Parsons, a sci fi buff and a founder of CalTech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Unauthorised biographies link Hubbard and Parsons’ with black magic, satanic rites and British occultist Aleister Crowley. Sci-fi writer Lloyd Eshbach who met Hubbard in the late 1940s recalls him saying “I’d like to start a religion, that’s where the money is.” In 1954 L Ron Hubbard founded the first Church of Scientology in Los Angeles California.
A long long time ago, 75 million years ago on a planet far far away, but still in our galaxy, there lived an intergalactic warlord named Xenu. He was in charge of 76 planets in this part of the galaxy, including our own planet Earth (Teegeeack). Xenu‘s problem was that all the plants he controlled were overpopulated. He needed to get rid of the excess population, so he formulated a plan. The evil plan could also be called Scientology’s creation story. This according to countless ex-Scientologists is the first of the doctrines released after paying thousands of dollars to reach level 3 OT (operating thetan)[1] Apparently the knowledge is potentially so dangerous it could kill those not ready to hear the brutal truth.
However because a Muslim has complete faith in God and knows with certainty that there is no god but God, the Sustainer and Creator of the universe, it is easy for us to delve further into the intergalactic story and hear the brutal truth. In contrast to Scientology, there is no secrecy in Islam, no one person is more worthy of being close to God or knowing how to worship Him correctly. Islam is a religion of informed knowledge.
Thus, to continue the story, according to ex Scientolgists[2] psychiatrists helped Xenu round up millions of people who were then dumped into volcanoes around the globe and vaporized with bombs. “This scattered their radioactive souls, or thetans, until they were caught in electronic traps set up around the atmosphere and “implanted” with a number of false ideas — including the concepts of God, Christ and organized religion. Scientologists later learn that many of these entities attached themselves to human beings, where they remain to this day, creating not just the root of all of our emotional and physical problems but the root of all problems of the modern world”[3].
Implanting false ideas about organised religion and God seems to be a direct contradiction to the stated Scientology belief in God or Supreme Being. However the real nature of the Supreme Being and the nature of the universe is revealed as a person rises in the ranks of Scientology and undergoes more expensive auditing sessions. In direct contrast Islam was revealed for all people, in all places, and at all times. Social status, or wealth have no bearing on how much Islam a person is entitled to know, nor does the length of time a person has been Muslim.
The Xenu story also helps to explain scientology’s deep hatred of psychiatry. Scientologists consider many illnesses to be psychosomatic and don’t believe in treating them with medicine, even aspirin. Islam, on the other hand instructs the believers to seek a cure from ill health with God but to take full advantage of medical and scientific methods.
Scientology has been under attack, and accused of criminal dealings almost from the beginning. Rolling Stone magazine,[4] in the 2006 article, Inside Scientology revealed and explained the policy known as Fair Game. “...all who opposed Scientology could be tricked, sued or lied to and destroyed. This policy was enforced by Scientology’s quasisecret police force, known as the Guardian’s Office. By the 1970s, among its tasks was “Operation Snow White,” a series of covert activities that included bugging the Justice Department and stealing documents from the IRS. The plan was discovered in FBI raids on Scientology’s Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., offices in 1977, which yielded wiretap equipment, burglary tools and about 90,000 pages of documents. Eleven Scientology officials, including Hubbard’s third wife, went to federal prison for their role in the plot, which led to a 1982 sweep of the church’s upper management.”
In 2009 the Church of scientology narrowly avoided being banned in France after being prosecuted for fraud, four leaders were given suspended jail sentences. In Belgium, too, Scientology is embroiled in a long criminal investigation. In the same year, the Prime Minister of AustraliaKevin Rudd expressed his concern over allegations of “a worldwide pattern of abuse and criminality”.
Scientology has been shut down in Greece, indicted in Spain, restricted in Russia, rebuffed by Sweden’s highest court, expelled from college campuses in Norway, convicted of crimes in Canada and denied status as a charitable organization or a religion in most European countries. High-ranking Scientologists have been jailed in Italy, France and Spain in connection with what were called crimes associated with Scientology practices, and France keeps Scientology on a list of organizations that need to be monitored for cult activity.[5]
The church has frequently been accused of breaking up families and preying on the vulnerable and in early 2011 the Huffington Post reported that the Church of Scientology in the USA was under investigation for human trafficking and unpaid labour. However, despite what appears to be overwhelming evidence to the contrary the Church of Scientology continues to describe itself as the religion whose goal is “a civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where Man is free to rise to greater heights.” - islamreligion.com

Scientology has been called the world’s most significant new religion, and Scientologists themselves claim to draw on 50,000 years of wisdom. However apostates from Scientology claim it is a vicious, dangerous cult masquerading as a religion. No matter which description we choose, the fact remains that Scientology is a controversial, mysterious religious movement, with more than 10 million members in around 160 countries across the globe. In this series of articles, we hope to delve into this puzzling movement, and find the answer to several intriguing questions. Is Scientology a religion or an evil cult? What exactly does a scientologist believe, and how do these beliefs compare to the religion of Islam?
The official scientology web site[1] states that “Scientology is a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being”. From this we can easily deduce that scientology does acknowledge God, or what they refer to as the Supreme Being.
“Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these are, that man is an immortal spiritual being, his experience extends well beyond a single lifetime and his capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realised.” In this statement we can see that scientologists believe in some form of reincarnation perhaps not dissimilar to the Eastern religions such as Hinduism or Buddhism.
Scientology further holds humankind to be basically good, and believes his spiritual salvation depends upon himself, his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe. This is a very pleasant sentiment, not unlike most of the religions that exist in the world today. The ultimate goal, scientologists say, is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom. This they exhort is achieved by applying Scientology’s principles and observing or experiencing the results.
The founder of scientology L Ron Hubbard began his studies of the mind and spirit in 1923, resulting in a 1938 manuscript entitled Excalibur. It was in this unpublished work that the word Scientology first appeared to describe what Mr. Hubbard termed “the study of knowing how to know.” Hubbard expanded on his studies by writing a manuscript detailing an actual therapy easily applicable to the average person.
The book describing the therapy, Dianetics - the Modern Science of Mental Health, was Hubbard’s masterwork and the basis of Scientology. It provides the means by which practitioners discover past lives.Pressing Hubbard’s application and research even further resulted in the accomplishment of exteriorization—demonstrating the spirit (thetan) is indeed separable from the body and mind.
The official scientology web site states ~ Although Dianetics and Scientology were founded by L. Ron Hubbard, and all the scriptures are solely comprised of his writings and recorded lectures, he nonetheless wrote: “Acknowledgment is made to fifty thousand years of thinking men without whose speculations and observations the creation and construction of Dianetics would not have been possible. Credit in particular is due to: Anaxagoras, Thomas Paine, Aristotle, Thomas Jefferson, Socrates, René Descartes, Plato, James Clerk Maxwell, Euclid, Charcot, Lucretius, Herbert Spencer, Roger Bacon, William James, Francis Bacon, Sigmund Freud, Isaac Newton, van Leeuwenhoek, Cmdr Thompson (MC) USN, Voltaire, William A. White, Will Durant, Count Alfred Korzybski and my instructors in atomic and molecular phenomena, mathematics and the humanities at George Washington University and at Princeton.”
The men Hubbard acknowledges are an interesting mix of the great philosophers, thinkers, psychologists and politicians. By perusing the list one is able to see why scientology has been described as a religious philosophy. However, is a philosophical form of psychology really a religion? A clear and workable definition of religion is very difficult to find, however the online dictionary[2] refers to it as “a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.”
Scientology does acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being although to the uninitiated it seems to lack a clear vision of an afterlife where one is punished or rewarded. It does have a moral code or set of values calling for universal brotherhood, however instead of ritual and devotional observances scientology has auditing. Auditing is the process of asking specifically worded questions designed to help one find and handle areas of distress often deeply buried in the psyche. Auditing is done with the aid of an E-meter. This is an electronic device that measures electrical resistance and skin conductance. It may in some sense be ritualistic but it is hardly devotional.
According to Rolling Stone magazine Scientology is unique among religious faiths, in that charges for virtually all of its religious services. Auditing is purchased in 12.5-hour blocks, known as intensives. Each intensive can cost anywhere from $750 for introductory sessions to between $8,000 and $9,000 for advanced sessions. Auditing helps a person move through the various levels of scientology until they attain the position of OT or Operating Thetan.
Scientology claims that the term theta describes the life force which animates all living things. This life force, they say is separate from, but acts upon, the physical universe, which consists of matter, energy, space and time (called “MEST” in Scientology). The thetan is what other religions would call the soul or spirit however in Scientology one does not have a thetan one IS a thetan. An OT therefore is a spiritual state of being where one can handle things without having to use a body of physical means. At this level one deals with his own immortality as a spiritual being and is able to study the very advanced materials of L. Ron Hubbard’s research.
Even though there are obvious aspects of spirituality in Scientology opinions around the world differ on whether or not Scientology is a religion. It is legally accepted as a tax exempt religion in the United States of America and after a legal struggle, in 1983, the High court of Australia recognised scientology as a religion. Scientology is not recognised as a religion in France and Belgium and in Germany it is legally a commercial organisation rather than a religion.
In the 2006 exposé of Scientology by Rolling Stone magazine the French sociologist and expert in comparative religions, Regis Dericquebourg, called Scientology’s belief system a “regressive utopia,” in which man seeks to return to a once-perfect state through a variety of meticulous, and rigorous, processes intended to put him in touch with his primordial spirit. These processes are highly controlled, and, at the advanced levels, highly secretive.
Stephen Kent, a professor of sociology at the University of Alberta, in Canada says, with reference to Hubbard’s science fiction writing background, that “Scientologists see themselves as possessors of doctrines and skills that can save the world, if not the galaxy.”

Muslims are obligated to pray five times a day, giving them the chance to temporarily disconnect from this world to reconnect with their creator.
“And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times” (Qur’an, 4:103).
This act can be beneficial in numerous ways.

Psychologically, it provides a break from daily routines and momentary freedom from the mental stress that comes with the burdens of daily life, allowing the realignment of priorities at regular intervals during the day.
Spiritually, prayer provides the chance to reconnect with Allah and remember what is most important.
Research at Binghamton University in the US is now showing that praying can benefit physical health.
The researchers say that the physical motions completed during salat, if performed regularly and as prescribed, can reduce lower back pain in a manner similar to other common therapeutic interventions.
